Please note: our pricing includes everything – surgery, hospitalisation, medications and all 6 re-visits. Complications, which are always possible, are extremely rare in our clinic; hence we do not charge other than for medications and pathology, for any further diagnostics or surgery if needed for the 3-month post-surgical period. Specialists generally do charge for any such complications. As cruciate repair is a major aspect of Southern Animal Health, please click here for a complete education of your options.
ABDOMINAL SURGERY:
Exploratory laparotomy with a negative result: This is something unique to Southern Animal Health. Many “possible” abdominal concerns occur that many clinics take days, and many tests to try to verify. Often that costs thousands of dollars, but most importantly delays time to actual diagnosis and correction.
Southern Animal Health often recommends an exploratory laparotomy. That means we bypass the days poof tests and waiting, and just explore the abdomen to find out if there is or is not a problem, and if there is, fix it with the least delay possible. (Often they have progressed to severe concerns costing far more with decreased prognosis).
However, the normal cost of a negative exploratory laparotomy can in itself be well over $1,200.
Hence Southern Animal Health has a cost-effective discounted fee of $880 for a negative laparotomy.
Of course, for the many things we may actually find, see our normal costs below.

CANCER SURGICAL OPTIONS
This is a very open-ended discussion with a “how long is a piece of string” response. However, here are some considerations to help:
General cutaneous masses:
- A small non concerning mass needing no margin to remove can range form $650-$850 depending on size, age and potential extras such as pre-anaesthetic blood screens and intravenous fluids.
- Medium sized tumours, of concern requiring a wider and deeper excision may range from $950 to $1850
- Major and serious concerns requiring extensive and deep margins may range from $1850 to $2650.
- More major resections requiring rotational skin flaps to cover deficits need to be discussed.
